In case you have been living under a rock (or hibernating in the southern hemisphere winter), you would have heard that Microsoft has just launched Bing (www.bing.com) - their new search engine.

Actually it’s quite nice. Snappy too. Good results and quite attractive. Now - the big question is, when would you search using Bing and when would you use Google…?

So it seems that when Microsoft’s attempts to buy out Yahoo! failed, they decided to go it alone and roll their own revamped search engine. It’s not their first search revamp attempt - we’ve have live.com start.com msn.com etc etc. (BTW, if you go to live.com it redirects to Bing.com)

I read somewhere that they intend spending $100m on marketing it. Woah, that’s a load of money in a recession. I wonder where that spend will go? Will they take ads on Google search? That would be ironic. In any event $100m spent marketing is their contribution to stimulating advertising
budgets all round - and a damn side cheaper than buying Yahoo!

Could you ever see yourself Binging, instead of Googling?

OK, so why the zen bones thing?

About 20 years ago I stumbled upon a book called "Zen Flesh, Zen Bones". Being vegetarian - the "flesh" bit didn't grab me, but the short pithy Zen stories inside it, did.

Ever since then my web nick has been zenbones, my Hotmail, my Gmail address, you name it. It's kinda stuck.

Is the blog about Zen? Nope.
