May 1st is RSS Awareness Day - big deal.
Actually, yes, big deal. I am continuously amazed at the number of my friends and associates who either don’t know what RSS is or do, but don’t use it. I was saying to one of my Fireworkx colleagues the other day, that RSS is the internets’ less sexy and poorer cousin. It’s a pity. It’s so versatile. I find I am using RSS feeds more and more each day for content aggregation, news, dissemination - you name it.
Got me thinking why many folks just don’t get it. I think it’s the name: RSS. It just sounds too tech. So did WWW in the early days of the web - but the acronym for world wide web helped to understand what it meant. RSS - really simple syndication - huh? Say what? Simple? Syndicates? Is this safe?
Another one of my Fireworkx colleagues had someone ask him, “Do I need to pay a fee to subscribe to your blog?” See what I mean - ordinary people just don’t get it.
Methinks we need a new name.
