Offline GMail is here at last.
Whenever I am evangelising to my friends and clients about the Gmail service (we use Google Apps for our company), I always get one relevant concern thrown at me: what if I don’t have internet access?
There are ways of dealing with this question - such as using Outlook as usual and IMAP onto GMail. But it’s a hack in my opinion as you don’t really have the full GMail experience.
But the smart guys at Google have finally delivered what we have been asking for - offline GMail. They are using Google Gears (another cool service from Google) to create a local cache of your mail. Very nice. I also suspect that this new feature alone will boost GMail’s penetration and also cause a much wider (non-geeky) adoption of Google Gears.
