Shame, poor Amazon, they must feel so left out. No one is suing them. Yet.

Vegetarian Shoes?

Since when do you get shoes “suitable for vegetarians?” Huh? Are they edible? I’m confused.

However, what’s not confusing at all is that Endless.com (owned by Amazon) are selling shoes with good price tags and they have FREE INTERNATIONAL DELIVERY.

So for example - I run with New Balance 1064’s which have a list price of $134 but sell for $77! That’s only R513 (ront) with free 2 day shipping. Here in South Africa you will pay between R800 and R1100 depending where you shop. So considering I’m on my 3rd pair of them after several thousands kms of road running in the last few years, maybe I should be buying them at Endless!

New Amazon Customer Service Center Opens in Cape Town

Good to hear Amazon are creating jobs in South Africa.

Next step is to start selling electronic products here too. Not just books.

Amazon Kindle taking a swipe at Apple’s iPad

Interesting that Amazon feels the need to have a go at them - especially as Amazon also has an iPad and iPhone app!

It’s a good angle to go on though for Amazon. Their e-ink does work well in full sunlight. (Except, I wonder who reads in full sunlight anyway? Even a white paper page is hard to read in full sunlight.)

I guess Apple could now do an ad showing a Kindle user trying to read in a darkened room at night (a more likely scenario, IMHO). To spice up their ad they could have the Kindle reader wearing a head lamp or one of those clip-on Kindle accessories!).

It’s all good!

Why Zappos sold to Amazom

An interesting insight into Zappos’ culture and their CEO’s “social experiments” in employee happiness (and customer satisfaction).

It’s a 10 min read, but well worth it.

What does the iPhone, Xbox, PlayStation, the Wii and the Kindle have in common?

Yes, they’re all tech products. They also hugely popular. And they’re the offspring of companies that compete fiercely. But no, that’s not the answer I was looking for.

The answer is that they are all manufactured by the SAME COMPANY. Yes, I couldn’t believe it either. They’re called Foxconn, the largest manufacturer of electronics and computer components worldwide. Based in Taiwan and going since 1974.

They produce the Mac mini, the iPod and the iPhone, the Macbook, MacBook Pro and MacBook Air, Intel motherboards, computers for Dell and Hewlett-Packard, the PlayStation 2 and PlayStation 3 for Sony, the Wii for Nintendo, the Xbox 360 for Microsoft, cell phones for Motorola, the Amazon Kindle, and various Cisco products. Oh and they also produce devices for Nokia, Sony Ericsson, and Palm.

Man, that’s impressive. One wonders how they manage to keep the trade secrets of the various producers, well er, secret. The mind boggles.

OK, so why the zen bones thing?

About 20 years ago I stumbled upon a book called "Zen Flesh, Zen Bones". Being vegetarian - the "flesh" bit didn't grab me, but the short pithy Zen stories inside it, did.

Ever since then my web nick has been zenbones, my Hotmail, my Gmail address, you name it. It's kinda stuck.

Is the blog about Zen? Nope.
