Apple’s new power-consumption friendly battery charger
“After your battery charge cycle is complete, the Apple Battery Charger reduces its power intake to 30 milliwatts — that’s more than 10 times better than the industry average.”
Now that’s neat. Cell phone chargers could learn from this! With billions of mobile phones in user globally, that’s one heck of a potential energy saving.

“Consumers didn’t ask for tablets” - Forrester Research
When I read a piece of “research” like this from the so-called experts (eg Gartner, Forrester, and the like) I am just reminded how disconnected these research houses are from reality.
They remind me of academics telling business people just “how things are in business”…
So back to this article. They’re saying it’s impossible for Apple to sell any more than a total of 3.5 million iPads because, “consumers didn’t ask for tablets”. Seriously. Did we ask for iPhones? Or iPods? Or iAnything? Anyway because we didn’t ask for such new tech innovations, somehow magically we just won’t buy them. Hello?! What planet are you “researchers” on?
Luckily Apple or Google or even Microsoft for that matter are probably not listening too carefully to your predictions. Especially Apple, since they have already sold 3 million iPads in the last 80 days. Yep Forrester, only 500,000 more will be sold for the rest of the year. Oh wait, you probably didn’t tell us consumers not to buy them.

iReading in the bath is now possible
I knew sooner or later someone would design this. Reading in the bath is one of life’s sacred pleasures. But the prospect of dosing off and letting your $500 iPad slip out of your fingers while you’re reading eTolstoy isn’t something most people would risk. TuneWear to the rescue!

So, this is the geeks mag. Now without trees involved.
Only problem is the 500meg download each month. That’s half a gig folks. Never mind the download cost and time, what about the “disk” space each edition will take up on my iPad!? It’s just too big to make it a viable option each month, methinks. Plan B?

Google today unveiled an open-source, royalty-free video format called WebM
Oh boy, the video format wars are going to heat up. H.264 is too costly to licence for the open source brigade but both Apple and Microsoft have backed it.
Please, please lets just settle this for once. This has been ongoing since Betamax vs VHS days. Enough now!

Steve Job’s, spin doctor of note!
Apple pushed out this press release this week to try and clarify their position on not allowing Flash on the iPhone, iPad and iPods. Most techies have been following the stories intricate twists and turns over the last month or so. And almost all of us have an opinion: “oh, it’s just Apple protecting their patch”, “Apple doesn’t like competition”, “Apple is just sorting out an old Adobe vs Apple stand-off,” yada yada.
I didn’t bother to read “the letter” till today, and whilst there’s nothing new in it (technically) that you haven’t read elsewhere, wow, it’s a masterpiece of writing. It’s written in Job’s speaking style - casual but deliberate. It’s so structured - opening statements, resting points at regular intervals, closing argument - man, it’s good.
