Who owns Facebook?
Bet you didn’t know Bono was a shareholder?
Oh and South Africa’s own Naspers / Media24 owns nearly 30% of DST which owns 10% of Facebook so that makes them roughly 3% owners!
So, Facebook’s Zuckerberg is Time’s Person of the Year
Here’s the bit on privacy:
“When it comes to privacy, it’s entirely possible that Zuckerberg will turn out not to be wrong, just prescient. Social norms change. People hated Facebook’s News Feed when it was introduced in 2006. They thought it was creepy and intrusive. Zuckerberg stood his ground, and now Facebook is unimaginable without it. He moved the chains, and we went with him, setting up our defense that much farther toward the end zone. “The world is changing,” Cox says. “When caller ID came out, people went psycho. You know, because, Oh my God, now people are going to know I’m calling them! This is terrible! I’m going to end up being tracked, and Big Brother and Orwell and all that! The reality is now you won’t pick up a call unless you know who’s calling you.”

Interesting conspiracy-theory footnote: Seems like Wikileaks honcho Julian Assange was actually voted as person of the year, and Time swung the vote in favour of Zuckerberg. I wonder how true that is?

Misleading headline of the week goes to Techcrunch…
This is what it says: “Naspers Buys 28.7% Of Facebook, Zynga Investor And ICQ Owner DST”
So, as a South African I read this and thought, “Whoah! This is a BIG DEAL - little ol’ SA company buys 28% of FACEBOOK - nice move”.
But, then I read the article: http://techcrunch.com/2010/07/14/naspers-dst/

Foursquare: It's the Twitter of 2010
2008 was the year of Facebook.
2009 was the year of Twitter.
I predict 2010 will be the year Foursquare makes it’s mark as an established part of the social network furniture. (That’s of course if Facebook doesn’t outsmart them with by launching a compelling location-based bolt-on.)
