Africa will soon be awash with bandwidth
Take a look at the thickness of the lines. The thin black line is the SAT3 undersea cable that South Africa has been reliant on for years. See how it’s dwarfed by the capacity of the new cables. Nice, nice, nice.
I have always maintained, that there are 3 things in life that there’s never enough of (or said another way - you’ll use all you get): money, parmesan cheese and bandwidth.
The WACS cable makes the funky new Seacom cable look skinny! Bring it on.

Realtime Energy Consumption Monitoring for World Cup 2010 Draw in Cape Town
This is a great initiative! Go to http://www.measure2manage.co.za and watch the realtime stats of how much energy is consumed during the draw process.
From their website:
“Eskom has partnered with the Cape Town International Conference Centre (CTICC) and embarked on an energy saving initiative, ‘Measure 2 Manage’, which will measure energy consumption in real-time from 30 November to 7 December, 2009, monitoring the pre-draw and final-draw activities taking place at the CTICC.”

Google to launch Maps “Street View” in South Africa
This is great news - been waiting to see Google do this for ages. They have really upped their game on the SA Maps lately, getting all the SA street names and places mapped.
Google SA are teaming up with Toyota and will be using the Prius to drive around with the cameras in the coming months. I can see a whole bunch of opportunities to “do something silly for when the cam cars drive down your street”.
All this before Soccer 2010. Nice.
