zen bones...

OK, so why the zen bones thing?

About 20 years ago I stumbled upon a book called "Zen Flesh, Zen Bones". Being vegetarian - the "flesh" bit didn't grab me, but the short pithy Zen stories inside it, did.

Ever since then my web nick has been zenbones, my Hotmail, my Gmail address, you name it. It's kinda stuck.

Is the blog about Zen? Nope.

In the event of a sudden loss of cabin pressure, masks will descend from the ceiling. Stop screaming, grab the mask, and pull it over your face. If you have a small child travelling with you, secure your mask before assisting with theirs. If you are travelling with more than one small child, pick your favourite. World Cup 2010: BBC base in Cape Town

I have been meaning to post this link for a week now - but couldn’t find a way to embed the video - and I still can’t, so I am just going to pop the link right here and hope you really link-though and watch this:

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/world_cup_2010/8736315.stm

Seriously folks, the BBC set-up they installed in Cape Town, just for the world cup, is very-very impressive. Wow!

Amazon sells Vuvuzelas o======<() ~ paaarp
This is cool. Very cool. Except for the description of the product: “Collapsible Noise Maker” - come on people. Seriously?! I’m insulted. That’s not a noise-maker, that’s sweet music, harmony, the gentle sound of African hummmmmm…. get used to it. Europe has bought 1.5 million of these already! I am sure the USA isn’t far behind.

Proud!
I think that’s the most prominent words (other than the the obvious South Africa, Bafana and Brazil) on this Wordle I created after analysing the 350+ comments on the Boston Big Picture gallery for the South African Worldcup 2010.
Go and look at the gallery - the photos are stunning!
I think I would wholeheartedly agree. Proud is how we “seffricans” should feel.

OK, Joburg, calm down with those flags!
It’s all very patriotic but you actually need some space between them so that can flutter!

Gooooooogle …. Goooooal!!
I just did a search for “worldcup” on Google to check out the coverage. Besides the 98 million search results, there’s also a simple schedule matches that they show right up top in the results - and that’s not all - when I scrolled to the bottom to go to page two, I spotted the usual Gooooooooogle had been discretely changed.
Seems even Google is really getting into the “gees”. Launching Street View in Google Maps for South Africa (just in time) and also 3D models of the stadiums in Google Earth and a load of other initiatives. Nice.
