Cheap(er) wind power. Come on SA, let’s do this now.
“Imagine: no more dirty coal power, no more mining deaths, no more nuclear disasters, no more polluted aquifers as a result of fracking. Our entire society powered by the quiet “woosh” of a wind turbine. Kyushu University’s wind lens turbine is one example of the many innovations happening right now that could in the near future make this utopian vision a reality.”

Apple’s new power-consumption friendly battery charger
“After your battery charge cycle is complete, the Apple Battery Charger reduces its power intake to 30 milliwatts — that’s more than 10 times better than the industry average.”
Now that’s neat. Cell phone chargers could learn from this! With billions of mobile phones in user globally, that’s one heck of a potential energy saving.

5 Myths About Renewable Energy

I like this quote from the article: “The United States Department of Energy estimates that the solar energy resource in a 100-square-mile (259-square-kilometer) area of Nevada could supply the United States with all its electricity.”

That’s significant!

It’s a good read - click through here

The Bloom Box

I must say, this could get me rather enthusiastic about alternative energy options. The hype around this launch, and the celebs, will drive the fuel cell technology mainstream.

Admittedly, it’s been around since the 1800’s but hasn’t been fully exploited. Also, the “no emmisions” and “green label” the Bloom Box seems to be attracting is a little exaggerated - as there are CO2 outputs. Anyhow, it’s a step away from the ridiculous coal-fired belching power-plants we rely on now, towards something lighter and cleaner. It’s not as green as solar or wind, but provides a more reliable and consistent power source.

Realtime Energy Consumption Monitoring for World Cup 2010 Draw in Cape Town

This is a great initiative! Go to http://www.measure2manage.co.za and watch the realtime stats of how much energy is consumed during the draw process.

From their website:

“Eskom has partnered with the Cape Town International Conference Centre (CTICC) and embarked on an energy saving initiative, ‘Measure 2 Manage’, which will measure energy consumption in real-time from 30 November to 7 December, 2009, monitoring the pre-draw and final-draw activities taking place at the CTICC.”

zen bones...

OK, so why the zen bones thing?

About 20 years ago I stumbled upon a book called "Zen Flesh, Zen Bones". Being vegetarian - the "flesh" bit didn't grab me, but the short pithy Zen stories inside it, did.

Ever since then my web nick has been zenbones, my Hotmail, my Gmail address, you name it. It's kinda stuck.

Is the blog about Zen? Nope.
