I guess those 600,000 pre-orders for the iPhone 4 are music to investors’ ears!
New iPhone 4 has 960x480 resolution
That’s almost as much as some folk’s desktop PCs! Drool-worthy. As usual.

This why I like Smartphones
In case you haven’t seen it, the iPhone app store allows you to download thousands of apps. Some free, some paid for. I have dozens of apps installed! Some for fun, some for tracking my running, some for business or productivity.
Almost daily I have the ritual of hitting the updates button to check which of my apps have updates. Today 10 of my apps got improvements - either bugs fixed or new features.
Imagine you bought a car with 30 major features. Imagine then installing 20 new features to make it better. Imagine every month you get updates to your car that make it handle better, safer, more comfortable, improve it’s fuel efficiency and so on? Imagine after a year of owning your car it’s now so much better than when you bought it, and it’s totally customised to your exacting needs?
Well, owning a smartphone is like that.
This is geeky funny! Jon Stewart takes on Apple.
Now this is a good PR stunt!!

Shock! Apple Approves Opera Mini for iPhone
Actually, I was surprised. According to the standard Apple app policy, they won’t approve 3rd party apps that offer a feature that is already built into the iPhone. So allowing the Opera browser was not expected by almost all the tech pundits.
For Apple to reject it now amidst all the Adobe vs Apple wars was probably going to add more fuel to the raging fire, so they must have thought love and hard about approving this one.
Now that I have installed (and already uninstalled it) I can see why they OK’d it: it’s so inferior to the built in Safari browser Apple knew it wouldn’t be a real threat. Go figure. (Maybe the guys at Opera were thinking that it probably wasn’t going to make the approval process and minimised their dev efforts for version 1. Well, it shows. I’t clunky, not fast - even though that’s what Opera was always good at - speed.)
Oh well, better luck next version.

Runkeeper just upped their game against MapMyRun
They’ve launched “live” tracking on Google Maps of your run - so you friends and family can watch in realtime where you are. Pretty cool. MapMyRun used to be my standard running app for my iPhone - but their the usability (or lack) on their website is making me consider switching back to RunKeeper.

My 10 Crazy Apple iSlate Predictions

My 10 Crazy Apple iSlate Predictions
1. It actually exists.
2. It runs both Mac apps and iPhone apps.
3. It’s waterproof. Yep, reading in the bath is a reality.
4. You can download and read any e-zine in full colour, unlike the Kindle, etc. (Think the whole Apple ecosytem strategy here, folks. Remember, iPod plus iTunes, iPhone plus apps. Now it’ll be iSlate plus books, movies, magazines, presentations.)
5. It does voice calls, like a phone.
6. It’s also a TV.
7. It can run with or without a SIM card.
8. You can connect it to an external monitor or data projector.
9. It has awesome sound quality for watching movies.
10. It will be seen as both a business tool and a tool for students (think iTunesU).
11. Bonus point: It’s not actually called the iSlate.
Oh, and off course all the obvious things like wifi, 3G+, multi-touch, OLED screens, etc, etc.
My list of predictions is not based on science, research or even insider knowledge (of which I have none). It’s based on some wild imaginings I have been having about this mystical device.
I wonder what my prediction score will be, out of 11?
Facebook’s iPhone app gets a major update
Today Facebook gave its iPhone app a major boost with contact syncing to your phone’s address book. It pulls down the Facebook profile pic and adds it to your contact. So now when your phone rings their mugshot gets displayed. I guess this leaves the (very buggy) FriendSync app with no reason to exist.
The other cool (or maybe irritating) new feature is Push Notifications. So now your phone will display a notification message every time a Facebook friend comments, likes, tags you or any other event. It could be useful for being alerted to those inappropriate comments some friends make, or better still, being alerted to bad photo tag!
