OK, so why the zen bones thing?

About 20 years ago I stumbled upon a book called "Zen Flesh, Zen Bones". Being vegetarian - the "flesh" bit didn't grab me, but the short pithy Zen stories inside it, did.

Ever since then my web nick has been zenbones, my Hotmail, my Gmail address, you name it. It's kinda stuck.

Is the blog about Zen? Nope.

This why I like Smartphones In case you haven’t seen it, the iPhone app store allows you to download thousands of apps. Some free, some paid for. I have dozens of apps installed! Some for fun, some for tracking my running, some for business or productivity. Almost daily I have the ritual of hitting the updates button to check which of my apps have updates. Today 10 of my apps got improvements - either bugs fixed or new features. Imagine you bought a car with 30 major features. Imagine then installing 20 new features to make it better. Imagine every month you get updates to your car that make it handle better, safer, more comfortable, improve it’s fuel efficiency and so on? Imagine after a year of owning your car it’s now so much better than when you bought it, and it’s totally customised to your exacting needs? Well, owning a smartphone is like that.

Shock! Apple Approves Opera Mini for iPhone Actually, I was surprised. According to the standard Apple app policy, they won’t approve 3rd party apps that offer a feature that is already built into the iPhone. So allowing the Opera browser was not expected by almost all the tech pundits. For Apple to reject it now amidst all the Adobe vs Apple wars was probably going to add more fuel to the raging fire, so they must have thought love and hard about approving this one. Now that I have installed (and already uninstalled it) I can see why they OK’d it: it’s so inferior to the built in Safari browser Apple knew it wouldn’t be a real threat. Go figure. (Maybe the guys at Opera were thinking that it probably wasn’t going to make the approval process and minimised their dev efforts for version 1. Well, it shows. I’t clunky, not fast - even though that’s what Opera was always good at - speed.)  Oh well, better luck next version. via Apple Approves Opera Mini for iPhone

Runkeeper just upped their game against MapMyRun

They’ve launched “live” tracking on Google Maps of your run - so you friends and family can watch in realtime where you are. Pretty cool. MapMyRun used to be my standard running app for my iPhone - but their the usability (or lack) on their website is making me consider switching back to RunKeeper.
